2022 HONDA GL 1800 GOLD WING TOUR SPECS, REVIEWS AND COMMON PROBLEMS

The Honda Goldwing GL1800 is a large, fully equipped touring motorcycle with a shaft drive and a 1,833 cc flat six cylinder engine that produces 124.7 bhp at 5,500 rpm and peak torque at 4,500 rpm.

Compared to the 2001-2017 model, there is a new, smaller engine with 8 bhp more power, a new chassis, new suspension, larger front discs, sharper styling, full LED lighting, six gears on the manual gearbox, and the motorcycle is significantly lighter, although fuel capacity has decreased by nearly 4 litres.

In addition to having four valves per cylinder instead of two, the new engine is a whopping 6.2 kg lighter. In addition, there are new high-tech features such as hill start assist, four riding modes, Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth connectivity, and idling stop/start with off mode.

There are two versions available, with the base model weighing 365 kilograms with 30 liter panniers and featuring a 6-speed manual transmission.

The 14 kg heavier Tour version weighs 379 kg and includes the pillion seat / 50 litre topbox (which can accommodate two full face helmets), two additional speakers, and the new optional 7-speed Dual-Clutch Transmission (DCT) automatic gearbox, which adds an additional 4 kg. The topbox and seat can be removed from the Tour if you desire a bagger-style appearance.

The £29,700 DCT model also has a cool walking mode for easy backwards and forwards maneuvering, and the ride mode alters the gearing. Similarly, the Tour model’s suspension is electrically adjustable and also adapts to the ride mode. Even the Tour model equipped with DCT is 38 kg lighter than its predecessor!

Honda opted to reduce the total capacity of the Tour version from 150 litres to 110 litres after consulting with existing Goldwing owners about how they use their vehicles. As it turns out, they only travel for a few days at a time, so they didn’t need all that space and the bike is now narrower. Using the smart key to unlock the luggage is as simple as pressing a button, and it can be unlocked remotely as well.

The front 18″ 10-spoke wheel accepts a 130/70 tire, while the rear 16″ wheel accepts a 200/55. Accessories consist of a taller screen, adjustable leg and upper body wind deflectors, and a luggage rack.
