Kymco (stylized as KYMCO) is a Taiwanese motorcycle manufacturer headquartered in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. It is an acronym for Kwang Yang Motor Co, Ltd (Chinese: ; pinyin: Gung Yáng Gng Yè). Kymco’s factory in Kaohsiung employs approximately 3000 people and produces over 570,000 vehicles per year. After splitting from Honda, the company was founded in 1963. KYMCO began by producing parts for Honda. In 1970, the company built its first complete scooter, and in 1992, it began marketing under the “KYMCO” brand name. Kymco grew to become Taiwan’s largest scooter manufacturer and the world’s fifth largest scooter manufacturer in the 2000s.  In early 2008, BMW chose KYMCO to supply the engines for their G450 X Enduro motorcycle. Kymco also provides the optional range extender in the BMW i3.  Kawasaki announced in late 2013 that their new J300 scooter would be manufactured in collaboration with Kymco. It is inspired by the Kymco Downtown 300i.
