GAS GAS MOTORCYCLES MANUFACTURER

Gas Gas is a Spanish motorcycle manufacturer founded in 1985 in Salt, Girona by Narcs Casas and Josep Pibernat. Off-road motorcycles for trials and enduro competitions are the company’s specialty. KTM motorcycles purchased Gas Gas in 2019. Gas Gas’s off-road models were purchased by Spanish motorcycle manufacturer Rieju after the sale to KTM.
Narcs Casas and Josep Pibernat opened a Bultaco motorcycle franchise in Salt in 1973. When the Bultaco factory went bankrupt in 1979, Casas and Pibernat began importing Italian SWM motorcycles until the manufacturer went out of business in 1984.
Casas and Pibernat then began a program to produce trial motorcycles for sale in their shop.
[1] In 1985, Gas Gas began producing trial motorcycles, enduro and motocross motorcycles in 1989, and quads in 2002. Gas Gas literally means “to gas it” (to accelerate, give it the gas, turn the throttle – to go faster.) The Gas Gas founders have expressed reservations about the name because it causes confusion outside of Spain. Others have remarked that Gas Gas are so good that they needed to be named twice. From 1999 to 2002, the US importer, GasGas North America, used the slogan “Gas Gas = Fast Fast” to help people understand the unusual name.
Gas Gas merged with Spanish motorcycle manufacturer Ossa in 2014, and was eventually acquired by the Torrot Group in 2015.
In 2019, Gas Gas was purchased by Pierer Mobility AG with links to KTM motorcycles.
